News 1: Patreon, fights for creators — the leading tool to monetise success on social media

Patreon is a tool for creators first and foremost to monetise followers. For creators like influencers, artists and local initiatives. Patreon offers membership offer out-of-the box — for followers to get extras if they pay a subscription. Many other shortcuts: live-streaming, multi platforms, websites, etc. Patreon is the leader and the market maker. Opinion for B2B: Based in San Francisco and 7 years old, Patreon is by far the leader with fundings over $250m. Over 200.000 creators use the Patreon tool that comes as a typical freemium model. Number rising in time when concerts are closed and artists look for more connection and revenues. And they get less or too few from Youtube, Spotify, Instagram.

Patreon’s fight: the answer against “creators getting screwed” (says the slogan).

News 2: OnlyFans — for adult content, fighting to move to more respect

OnlyFans is a London-based tool to set-up a subscription site for content creators to monetise their influence, their followers. OnlyFans, the name says it all — fans can unlock supplementary content in subscribing to the influencer. OnlyFans has grown with creators delivering “adult” contents. But this is changing. Opinion for B2B: OnlyFans pioneers the monetisation of followers with a separate process from the Instagram, YouTube or TikTok revenues. YouTube has notably reduced the revenue flow to “YouTubers”, and users are sued to sign-in subscription, especially with small amounts. OnlyFans is a lot about semi-porn pics, but the London company pushes other usecases.

Lots of “adults” content — no wonder OnlyFans is a very secretive company (belongs to Fenix Int’l Ltd)

News 3: Selling filters — the core of VSCO success

VSCO (say “veesco”) is the iconic filter platform for producing photos for social media. VSCO has expanded over time to a complete photo and video editing tool. Business runs well — the latest financing rounds ($90m) is dating from 2015. VSCO just acquired Trash, an AI-bases video editing tool, strengthening the video editing part. Opinion for B2B: The hype was high in 2018 — the expression “VSCO gals” came up at the time, for all young female users. Now a more mature platform with a large creative ambition in photo and video.

Look at the very good VSCO year in review — fort creatives trends.
