This is Mr. Altman’s latest invest, end of July, VitalBio. Vital One, the first product, is a mini lab box for doctors to do lab tests fast and on-premise — blood on a disc into the box. For that a lot of research and breakthroughs in the hardware, biochemistry and breakthroughs in “microfluidics”. A long list if tests can be provided in minutes, no need to send to a specialised lab. Opinion: Opinion? A disruption of the whole lab process and market. Lab on-premise in doctors’ practice. Also, a clever solution where manipulation is 30 sec. and results in minutes. We understand the invest of $48m (part of Sam is undisclosed) for this Toronto company.
Revolution ahead? And a solution mixing all new tech: computer vision, biotech and processors.
Another meat alternative, but Uncommon (the name). For bacon!
Based in Cambridge (UK), Uncommon is researching and developing pork meat alternatives, especially bacon. A huge market in the world (and in the United Kingdom of “Bacon and eggs”. They cultivate cells, stemming from stem cells. A process tested and acknowledged. Gathered $33,6m for the cell agriculture. Opinion: Interestingly, Uncommon stresses everywhere the fun, the creativity that they need to do this kind of science. “It’s a creative realm where we break new ground”. A claim, we’d never seen before.

Online college low-cost called Campus
Campus is an offline and online college course for undergraduates. The live class online course called “Campus Scholar Program” is done by professors from high-profile universities. Candidates apply in an app and are selected for a program starting in October. The fee is key and low (for the US): $7,200 per academic year, for an undergraduate degree. (Class, PC and WIFI). Opinion: We need to put this into the perspective of very expensive colleges and universities in the US where students burden large debts to finance their studies. A big issue, unknown in Europe.
