News 1: Looop by H&M — a loop of clothes

The in-store recycling system in one Stockholm H&M store disassembles and assembles old garments by cleaning, shredding and spinning them into new yarn — without using water or toxic chemicals. Only some sustainably sourced material is used to strengthen the yarn. Members of H&M’s loyalty programme are able to try out Looop in store for $11 while non-members will be charged $17. A project by the non-profit H&M Foundation. Announced. Opinion for B2B: This technology will gain momentum with the clothing industry under consumer pressure for a circular approach. With Looop, customers learn that old fashion items don’t need to end up in trash. Instead, old garments get back into the system. By a process that use no water and chemicals. An experience in just one store, but worth following.

Turning oldies into newbies — what a technology.

News 2: Extended life of pre-owned with Zalando Zircle

Zalando introduced „pre-owned“ as a category as part of “Zalando Zircle”. Users can buy and sell used clothes from various brands on Zalando Zircle. Sellers post items with pictures and further information. Two possibilities: Zalando buys it and resell, only if Zalando rebuying standards are met. If not, items can be sold directly to the Zircle community. Opinion for B2B: A major player in fashion comes up with a circular economy solution and follows a consumer trend for “pre-owned” fashion. This is an important news!

News 3: Vinted, a new force in re-sell app

The platform for selling, buying and swapping clothes known in Germany under the name “Kleiderkreisel” and “Mamikreisel” pushes all users to download a single new app, call Vinted. Lithuanian company decided to operate with one brand. A success: 8.5 million users in Germany and 34m globally. Also acquiring Dutch competitor United Wardrobe. Opinion for B2B: Vinted marches to be a major player in growing market of “reselling”. Right now positioned somewhere between hip and cool Depop and antiquated Ebay.

Competitors challenging Ebay in their niches.
