Preventive health — a major trend and new fundings
3 innovation and digital news in 1 minute. Every Monday. Episode 396
Zoe is based on the largest nutrition study worldwide. And growing
Zoe has raised further funding, total amount over $100m. Seldom enough in this segment. Segment of health tech. Zoe is a step-by-step programme. 1/ sensor to measure body reaction to food 2/ food recommendation 3/ re-test and adapt 4/ routine suitable to health and nutrition factors. Opinion: Something is happening: nutrition and health are being observed, monitored and studied. Here based on a large worldwide study from London King’s College. Two effects, first the monitoring of effect of food and drinks (mainly glucose) and then the fact that not all bodies react the same way (adaptogen).
A major progress and a start-up to follow, Zoe (means life in Greek).
Multi-molecule sensor, Sava
Sava is a sensor for in real-time measurement of molecules like glucose, lactate, alcohol, sodium, etc.. A sensor of a new generation, on the skin surface. Continuous monitoring. In beta, a waitlist is now open. Sava was founded in 2016 (Crunchbase) and only just got a first seed round of £6.3m, London-based. Opinion: The sensor covers main use cases like diabetes, sport performance and weight-loss. It follows a major trend of health and nutrition monitoring, above all glucose peak monitoring. TikTok is full of videos of peak tracking, depending on food or drinks.
A habit for specific use cases, will it spread to the masses?!
Biolinq with large fundings for sensors, in the US
Biolinq, a San Diego-based startup, develops biosensor technology, particularly for glucose monitoring. Minimally invasive intradermal glucose sensor, minimally is what Biolinq works on. $250m fundings, recently secured $58 million in Series D funding, led by Alpha Wave Ventures. This sensor, embedded just under the skin, offers real-time, continuous glucose monitoring without the need for needles, aiming to simplify diabetes management. Opinion: Diabetes is the main use case, and growing case in many regions of the world. A “growing market” (not a nice word). Key today is how intrusive the sensors is, and Biolinq leads this development.
Glucose sensors, a market beyond therapy, also for sports.
