Former managers at Riot Games (“League of Legends”) formed 6 months ago a new game publisher with a credo as a name, “The Believer Company”. Gathered already in two rounds $80 million, also from a16z. The company is forming themselves and are bringing two aspects into gaming: “fantastic” gaming experience, but also the positive effect of players’ community. Opinion: A good way to start — a credo — what the founders believe in. And it shows on the name (The believer Company), the attitude and after all in the large sums they gather.

Big bucks for Character AI

Character AI is as the name says, a character builder — it builds avatars with a certain personality. Either one selects an existing character to chat with, or create one’s own. Character AI warns on the limit of an AI creation with “Everything Characters say is made up!” 🤥 Everything Characters say is made up! Don’t trust everything they say or take them too seriously” or “🤬 Characters may mistakenly be offensive — please rate these messages one star.” Big buck: $200m from a16z as a sole investor. Opinion: A very original, in a way, new platform. It is fun to chat with the different characters. Even Elon Musk is there ;). We selected Lynn — the no nonsense character (see pic) that has written about Character AI, his creator.

Shef is the name of the new meal delivery service based in San Francisco. Shef with an s. Just a marketplace for meals cooked at home by real people in a defined community. Home cooking done by others. A16z sees a market — a funding of $102m (not a sole investor). Opinion: A very straightforward concept based on an existing habit, in certain community (often Latin American). A good cook in the neighbourhood cooks for other households. Now on a marketplace and available for all.
