Invest in human-like robots, 1X

Based in Oslo, 1X has been around for exactly 9 years and gets a large boost with an invest of $22m by OpenAI (and Tiger Global) in March 2023. OpenAI spreads into androids. In fact 1X develops androids that could support humans at the workplace. Opinion: The picture reflects the ambition: develop human-like body for the robot — announced for the summer 2023 with the name of Neo Eve. A propos name — 1X is the new name of the company (formerly Halodi) and says it all: One time a human, 1X.

We will report the launch of Neo in Summer! It looks really human, doesn’t it?

A self-organising workplace, Mem

Mem is the first invest made by the OpenAI start-up fund in Nov. 2022, just ahead of the ChatGPT launch. Mem is a workplace with automatic organisation: notes, calendar, filing is done automatically. Also writing anything is supported by language models for text correction, transformation, translation. Opinion: It is a large ambition there. Mem needs to understand the various contexts of a workplace and understand the action required. Not really persuasive yet, but a step into a next phase of Generative AI, understanding the context and analysing it.

Mem, we believe we should remember that name.

Speak better English — with language models by Speak

Speak is an app focussed on learning, above all speaking a language. It is a new generation of digital language tutoring, based on AI. The AI tutor function is based on the latest GPT-4 that helps to understand the context to give personalised feedback. AI is also in the speech recognition, also based on OpenAI API. Opinion: Speak has very good ratings on the app store — not that well-known yet. Looking at Speak into details, they are still in a research and building phase following the GPT and OpenAI development. But one thing is for sure, the future is there, tuition that is personalised and understands the one student.

Applications of GPT larger than expected — in learning a language too.
