News 1: Big Gong for Gong.

Gong, a great discovery — a software that analyses sales or call-center calls. Then draw conclusions and guidelines for a better sales performance. A platform that received $200m (adding up to $333m). They get insights on market, deals and sales people. Opinion for B2B: Many sales processes are going remote and this is where Gong builds its momentum — it explains the high valuation. Gong (a great name) claims “Revenue Intelligence” as a positioning — a difficult concept. But practically, it is a machine that reads, transcribes, analyses and gets insights — here for sales calls.

Semi-automation: human make the deal, machine build the ideal process.

News 2: Tencent again in games — Voodoo

Tencent has taken a minority stake in Voodoo, a mobile game producer, based in Paris. Valued at 1.2b € it makes Voodoo a “unicorn”. They produce so called “hyper casual” games for mobile and very often lead the download chart with AquaPark, HelixJump. Opinion for B2B: Voodoo does deserve the unicorn status with so many game in the top app download chart. This week with Scribble Rider ! and Cube Surfer !. And Tencent continues to invest in European companies (Klarna, Spotify, Qonto) and in games (Epic, Riot) — always a minority share. Somewhat always under the radar.

Play casual games? Silly names but fun.

News 3: AI in drug discovery — Atomwise’s breakthrough

Atomwise is a San Francisco based startup that uses the Ai method called “convolutional neural network” for refining research in pre-clinical drug development. It helps accelerate complete phase of development. Now aquote, the tech “extracts the insights from millions of experimental affinity measurements and thousands of protein structures to predict the binding of small molecules to proteins”. Enough to raise $123m adding to $174m. Opinion for B2B: A very promising startup (amidst strong focus on drug research in general). The CNN method (Convolutional Neural Network) is famously used for face recognition. Just discovered this new, very useful usecase at Atomwise.
