News 1: Taobao Live and renaissance of TV shopping
Taobao (the mass market shopping app of Alibaba) successfully pushes the Taobao Live app. A classical teleshopping but on contemporary standards: vertical, streamers, chats in parallel, ecosystem of merchants. A push for small stores (closed) that can stream product demo, offers and online sales. Opinion: It makes sense. If a small store is closed. The owner can stream a “teleshopping” alternative to real-life shopping. A lamp and a phone holder as equipment and a scenario. A renaissance of a disliked format. B2B Takeout: On our watch list: development of teleshopping in social media version. Taobao strong on it, Amazon Live runs in the US.
News 2: Collibra raises and raises
The largest Belgian start-up Collibra keeps on raising funds — positive announcement of new §112 million (in total $345m). Collibra provides with a suite of tool to manage data. Use cases: risks, cost reduction, security and migration to cloud. Opinion: At least a positive announcement at a moment where many VC-backed start-ups are struggling. Especially if investments burn fast. B2B Takeout: Collibra focusses right now on tools for managing data in migration from own servers to public cloud. A use case that many companies carry out.
News 3: From 10 to 200 million users! Zoom huge pressure.
Zoom users rocketed from 10 million to 200 million users between Dec. and March. Catapulting Zoom in the top league — with tremendous challenges of privacy and security. CEO Eric Yuan blogposted on it and the feature freeze — focussing on basic security checks. Opinion: “Zoombombing” is the expression of the moment — with hackers interfering into zoom conference with any strange videos. Zoom is a tool for businesses that went mass market in 2 weeks. An immense challenge for the zoom IT but for the reputation! B2B Takeout: No need to say — the choice and usage of video conference and collaborative tool is now (and at last) a key strategic decision. No one at C-level will dare differ this any longer.
