News 1. The Block is the blockchain hotspot in Lisbon
Portugal established itself as one of the world’s hotspots for the blockchain and crypto ecosystem, with an attractive regulation and developers resources. In the capital Lisbon, The Block is the place to be. It’s a coworking space and hangout spot for everybody in the blockchain/crypto ecosystem. Initiated by a group of “crypto friends”. Opinion: All European (and international) blockchain nomads seem to spend this Winter in Portugal. A warm Winter and a blooming blockchain community pull everybody to Portugal. We’ve met all kinds of people from the blockchain ecosystem here: developers, startup founders, consultants etc.
Friday evening is the time to go to The Block and connect to blockchain people at The Block’s meetup.
News 2. Science exhibition with AR animated experiences and an NFT
Pavilhao de conhecimento (knowledge pavilion) is a science exhibition in Lisbon, targeted towards kids, with animated experiences. Experiences like bringing a drawn fish alive in an animated virtual fishtank. With every ticket visitors get access to an NFT artwork by technology artist Leonel Moura. Opinion: The AR fishtank is the highlight of the exhibition for every kid (and adult). For digital enthusiasts the NFT artwork by technology artist Leonel Moura is a huge highlight. Moura is also the initiator of Robotarium, the robot Zoo (located close to Lisbon).
Wish I visited the knowledge pavilion as a kid, must be even more exciting than now.
News 3. Lisbon is home to the worlds biggest tech conference
Web Summit is the world’s biggest technology conference and is held every year in Lisbon. Once a year the world’s biggest tech companies, startup founders, politicians, scientists and venture capitalists gather in Lisbon for Web Summit. Next one is in November 2022. Opinion: Web Summit is the annual highlight of the Lisbon startup community with 70 thousand attendees (before Covid pandemic). This conference shapes the local startup and tech ecosystem, a big push for the local tech enthusiasts.
For one week every year the tech world doesn’t look on San Francisco, Paris or London but on relatively small city Lisbon.
