3 innovation and digital news in 1 minute. Every Monday. Episode 304

News 1: Hövding — €350 airbag helmet with sensors

Hövding 3 is an airbag helmet that is worn around the neck. Integrated sensors in the helmet measure the rider’s movement 200 times per second. In the event of an accident, the helmet triggers within 0.1 seconds. The helmet is connected to the Hövding app via Bluetooth. In case of an accident, the mobile phone sends a message to an emergency contact. Opinion: The invention for €349 by Hövding Sverige owes its fame to the technology inside the helmet. In the end, it is the same technology as in airbags used in cars. Just tailored to a smaller format.

The discreet neck solution is a big plus!

News 2: Garmin — €400 radar warning gadget with dashcam

Garmin Varia RCT716 is a warning radar for bicycles with an integrated rear light and video camera. It warns of approaching vehicles at a distance of up to 140 metres. It is displayed on compatible sports watches or bike computers. The camera provides automatic accident detection and saves the video sequence. Opinion: Like the airbag, the technology of a warning system and the principle of the dashcam are also known from the automotive industry. Garmin’s combination of rear light, warning system and dashcam is clever. It would be interesting to see if there will be further transfers from the automotive industry — a lane assist for bicycles?

Perhaps we will soon see transfers from the bicycle to the automobile industry!

News 3: Cosmo Connected — €389 AR glasses for cyclists

Cosmo Vision, the AR glasses by Cosmo Connected transfer data from the Cosmo app to the lens. GPS route, speedometer, timed distance and altitude display can be shown. With a movement in front of the glasses displays can be switched. History, distances, average and record times are accessible on the app. Opinion: All important information for cyclists is directly in the rider’s field of vision. The hand movement solution is smart and much less dangerous than taking the mobile phone out of the pocket. Investors also find the ideas of Cosmo Connected smart, hence a fresh funding of $6m in June 2022.

It’s exciting to see what ideas will follow!
